The skin is saved in the NPC's own file in the npcs folder, so a restart shows it again without looking it up.
Only player NPCs have a skin. Set it from the Skin option of the NPC's editor, or with /pnpc skin <id> <skin> [classic|slim].
| Skin | Typed as | Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Player name | Notch |
That player's skin. |
| Image URL | https://... |
A skin made from the image. Needs a MineSkin key. |
| Placeholder | %player_name% |
A different skin for each player. |
| Mirror | @mirror |
Every player sees their own skin. |
| Default | @none |
The default Minecraft skins. |
The skin of an online player is copied straight away. Anyone else is looked up from Mojang, which can take a few seconds. A name that has no skin leaves the NPC as it was.
The image is sent to MineSkin, which turns it into a skin. This needs your own MineSkin API key in config.yml. Add slim after the URL for the thin-armed model, or change it later from the editor, which makes the skin again.
The placeholder is filled in for each player who sees the NPC, and the result is used as a player name. With %player_name%, everyone sees themselves, the same as Mirror. Any other result is looked up the first time and shown once it has loaded. Needs PlaceholderAPI for anything other than %player%.
Every player sees the NPC wearing their own skin.
