On this page, you will find how to give an NPC items to hold and wear.
The items are saved in full, enchantments and custom data included, in the NPC's own file in the npcs folder.
#Equipment
Six slots: main hand, off hand, head, chest, legs and feet. Drop an item on a slot in the Equipment screen of the NPC's editor to give it to the NPC. Player NPCs and mobs show it, models do not.
The same can be done with /pnpc equip <id> <slot> while holding the item. The slot is hand, off_hand, head, chest, legs or feet. With an empty hand the slot is emptied, and clear empties every slot.
