๐Ÿšฉ Capture the Flag

On this page, you will learn more about the Capture the Flag rule.

#Information

The Capture the Flag add-on gives every team a banner at their base. Steal the enemy's banner, carry it back to your own, and you score a capture. First team to the goal wins the round. This add-on requires PhoenixDuels Premium.

#Installation

To install this add-on, simply drag and drop the jar file into the PhoenixDuels/addons folder, or include the add-on while using the bundle download option to download the plugin.

This add-on adds Capture the Flag as a gamemode rule to the plugin, and generates the following file:

  • PhoenixDuels/translations/captureflag.translations.en.yml - The translation file for the add-on.

1

#Create a Gamemode

Create a gamemode dedicated for Capture the Flag.

2

#Select Rule

Select the Generated rule Capture the Flag and any other rule you might want.

3

#Place the Banners

Place one banner per team inside the arena's battle region, next to each team's spawn. Any banner type works, and its color is up to you.

4

#Create a Map

Create a map dedicated for this ruleset, and make sure Regeneration is enabled.

Capture the Flag refuses to start a match on an arena without Regeneration enabled. The rule moves banner blocks around the map, so the arena has to be able to reset itself between matches.

#The Flags

There is no separate setup step for the flags. When a round starts, every banner inside the battle region is scanned and handed to the team whose spawn it sits closest to โ€” the same way Bed Fight decides which bed belongs to which team. If a team has more than one banner nearby, the closest one becomes its flag.

If a team ends up without a banner, everyone in the match is warned in chat, so it is obvious you missed one rather than the mode quietly half-working.

#How it Plays

  1. Breaking an enemy flag takes it. The banner disappears from its base and appears on the carrier's head.
  2. You cannot break your own team's flag.
  3. A carrier who dies drops the flag where they fell. It sits on the ground for the return time, then goes home on its own.
  4. Walking over a dropped flag picks it up if it belongs to an enemy team, or sends it straight home if it is your own.
  5. Bringing an enemy flag within the capture radius of your own flag scores a capture โ€” but only while your own flag is still at its base. A team whose flag is out cannot score.
  6. The first team to reach the capture goal wins the round.

Players respawn rather than being eliminated, so the round is decided by captures and nothing else.

#Match Settings

The Capture the Flag rule's settings let you configure:

  • Capture Goal - how many captures a team needs to win the round.
  • Flag Return Time - how many seconds a dropped flag stays on the ground before it returns to its base by itself.
  • Capture Radius - how close a carrier has to get to their own flag to score, and how close a player has to get to a dropped flag to pick it up.
  • Respawn Time - how many seconds players wait before respawning. Set to 0 to respawn immediately.
  • Action Bar - toggles an action bar showing every team's captures and whether their flag is home.
  • Action Bar Format - the action bar text, using %teams% and %goal%.

#Placeholders

The Capture the Flag add-on adds the following placeholders that you can use on the Scoreboard:

  1. %captureflag_score% - Returns your team's captures.
  2. %captureflag_enemy_score% - Returns the enemy team's captures.
  3. %captureflag_goal% - Returns the capture goal.
  4. %captureflag_team1_score% through %captureflag_team4_score% - Returns that team slot's captures.
  5. %captureflag_team1_status% through %captureflag_team4_status% - Returns whether that team's flag is at its base.
