Anyone can watch a match in progress without taking part in it. Spectators are invisible to the players, cannot interfere with the fight, and are moved out with everyone else when the match ends.
There are three ways in:
spectator_players menu, opened from the spectator hotbar, to jump between the players of the match you are already watching.Spectators arrive at the arena's Spectator Position if one was defined when the map was set up. If none was set, they spawn on top of the player they are watching.
While spectating, players are given a small hotbar defined in spectator_hotbar.yml. Out of the box it contains a single Leave item, and you can add as many more as you like. See Spectator Hotbar for the file format.
External Spectator - Custom matches carry their own switch for whether outsiders may watch at all. It is toggled in the match creation menu, and when it is off, only the participants can see the fight.
A player who disconnects during a match cannot come back to it as a spectator. This is deliberate: it stops a player from leaving a fight and immediately returning to watch their own opponents.
phoenixduels.region.bypass lets a player walk into the region of any ongoing match without joining it as a spectator, which is the usual way staff get eyes on a fight.
When commands.require-permission is on, /spectate requires phoenixduels.commands.duels.
The Match Settings page covers the Spectator Engine, the Spectator Tab List Prefix, and the Per Arena Tab List option, all of which change how spectators behave and how they appear to others.
